Left Bank Butchery is a Whole Animal Butcher Shop overlooking the Haw River in the small Alamance County community of Saxapahaw.

We buy whole animals that have been lovingly, ethically raised by our partner farms and take pride in using every part of them. Compared to conventional (i.e. industrial) meat production, our old-school model requires creativity, thoughtfulness, and a serious dose of stubbornness to pull off. But it lets us cultivate connectedness to the land, to the animals we eat, to our community of neighbors, friends, and customers, and to a set of rich global food traditions. It’s also, incidentally, just a helluva lot more fun!

There are standards for food safety and standards for environmental protection. And, frankly, the standards are wildly insufficient for protecting our ecosystems, our communities and our health.

That’s why simply meeting the standard isn’t the standard here. Rather, we’re committed to meat that is outstanding and practices that are upstanding. Because it’s about our community, our families, our rivers, our health, our soil, our livelihoods, our humanity.

 

Meet the farmers who are raising healthy animals on healthy pasture. These farmers are our neighbors, business partners and closest friends. These farms are places where we bring our kids to play. We are so grateful to their dedication to sustainable animal husbandry so that we can do what we do and offer you meat that we can feel wholly proud of.

This location is often referred to simply as “the butcher shop.” It is our flagship storefront and cutting room, located right on the left bank of the beautiful Haw River. At this location, we are neighbors to the farms that raise our meat.

Raleigh’s only completely local, whole animal butchery and charcuterie shop, featuring tigelle sandwiches, fresh pasta and other Italian specialties. A collaboration between Mothers and Sons’ Josh DeCarolis and Left Bank Butchery.

 

At our shop in Saxapahaw, you can watch our butchers work, sample our broad and always-changing line of house-made charcuterie, and get inspired about what is possible in the kitchen. Whether you’re a new cook just starting to find your bearings, a busy parent trying to feed a crowd, or an adventurous home chef wanting to find some special cuts for your next dinner party, we’ll meet you where you’re at.
