Learning is Fun!
Learn some new skills
This week we had our monthly cooking class here at the shop. We alternate month to month between a cooking class and a butchery class and are always excited to show folks something new and help them become better cooks and orderers of meat! One of the things that we love about whole animal butchery is that we are constantly learning new ways to cut, a new dish to make or a technique to talk to customers about. In our continuing desire to get the word out about great local things you may not have heard of, and our thirst to learn new stuff, we wanted to give a nod to the Deep River Folk School.
Deep River Folk School, founded in 2019 in Franklinville, is an amazing community dedicated to teaching regular folks how to live more resiliently and return many of the skills we have lost over the decades. We became interested when we saw that they were doing classes on outdoor, open-fire cooking, and have been enamored ever since. Want to learn basic carpentry, how to spin wool or the best ways to preserve all that summer produce—they have you covered. The school is really a labor of love and the tuition is extremely affordable with top-notch staff. It's only about 45 minutes from Saxapahaw, and we are really lucky to have such an incredible resource in our area.

We have a lamb coming in this week and our usual load of beautiful beef and pork. If there is something you would like, it really is the season to put in an order. Once the sun is out and folks are congressing on front porches and back yards, things can get a little slim by the end of the weekend. Don't get stuck with grocery store meat, let us help you out!
